- Born: 1 Aug 1869, Nadukkaveri
- Marriage (1): Poornambal
- Died: 1924, Madurai at age 55
General Notes:
He was widely known as 'Calcutta' Ramachandra Iyer, and lived most of his life in Madurai, India. He was born in Nadukkaveri, in Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu, in 1869
He later went to Madurai to the American College, and it was here that he was brought to prominence. We hear that he led a student protest movement in the college, against the proselytizing activities of the Christian missionaries. For this, he was expelled from the college and barred from joining any university in South India.
Ramachandran then travelled by ship to Calcutta to pursue his studies. He returned to Madurai after gaining a law degree there.
He was a 'junior' to the prominent lawyer Ethiraj, after whom the Ethiraj college in Madras is named.
He became a prominent lawyer in Madurai, and rose to the powerful position of Government Pleader.
He joined the Theosophist's society, and was close to Dr, Annie Besant
He died relatively young, in his mid-50s, apparently due to enlargement of the liver. He left behind a large family - nine sons and two daughters. BIRT: RIN MH:IF1 DEAT: RIN MH:IF2 NOTE: PRIN MH:I1
